On Sunday one week ago, I tried to catch up with the pink punks currently, well everywhere or so it seems.
After they had been reported, repeatedly in my locality.
All I had to do was fall out the door. One mile from the house. Taking the mobile hide, I parked, looked to right. Less than four feet from me and the car, sixteen waxwings feeding freely in the entrance to a bungalow, opposite a local car dealer.
Now at this range and on a sunny morning, I had visions of cover pages of magazines. I carefully reached out for the camera to discover the case empty and the camera still on the kitchen bench charging.
Now they are still being reported, everywhere but i have not seen them since.
Yesterday, the mini twitch was for a large mostly black (with a buff tail) bumblebee on the last of the nasturtium flowers. I then realised the camera was in the car.
So today's mini twitch was for the squacco heron reported from Morpeth. Firstly camera glued to hand as i left the house early.
Luckily for me ADMC and another birder (sorry don't know your name), had just picked up the bird as it flew over the weir, up stream of East mill, where it fed on the opposite bank
It disappeared for a while, picking it up a while later as it flew past me ( down stream) over the weir again at East mill.
A dog walker asked what I was looking for, just as I was leaving. After a brief explanation. He replied, a small white heron like bird, was seen, by him last weekend.
It makes you wonder how long it has been here for. Anyway, I'm a happy bunny as it was a first for me.

I'm pleased you saw it Steve. Where did everyone disappear to? I caught up with it in the end just in time to get ready for work.
Great sight to see.
fingers crossed for the weekend
Wow, what a way to make up for the Waxwing dilema.
The 'other birder' was me, The Liverbirder as in:

Andy- thanks.
Hi ST, your birdwatching sounds like mine - I remember taking my tripod to a seawatch 2 hours away only to discover the case contained my old broken tripod so had to hold the scope on top of a wall... not good. Good you saw the Squacky though !!
